  2. Browse/list given datastore for running VMs

Within VMM, you can list available presented storage and show the amount consumed/available. It would be nice to show the list of VMs then running on a given datastore in order to easily identify and sort by the size the biggest consumers of a given datastore.

vCenter shows list of datastores and then VMs/virtual disks stored on them in order to help determine what can be migrated to another datastore as available storage becomes constrained.

  3. Move addins to the user profile

VMM stores vmm addins in %programfiles% under username. This is a horrible design. Please move user-defined addins to the userprofile and provide an option for system-wide installation of add-ins.

  4. Add support for key/value-tags

Please add proper key/value tags to VMM, much like the tags work in the preview Azure Portal. The current "single string" does not provide enough in terms of custom metadata, and the "Custom Properties" are a bit too intrusive and hard to work with.

  5. Virtual Machine Groups

We have different support groups that requires different level of access in the VMs created on Hyper-V hosts. Global ops should be able to manage all VMs. AD ops only domain controller VMs. SAP ops only SAP VMs. We can to it by assigning reources for each role, but it would be much easier if we could have VM groups that would be used to apply security and some other configurations. VMware uses folders to organize VM groups.

  6. OS customization for new VMs from Image

When deploying a new VM from a disk image, I cannot do OS Customization during the deploy process. If I create a new VM Template using the same disk, I can then do OS customizations when deplying from tha template. This carries over to WAP. I would like to not have to create a VM Template in order to deploy a VM and get OS customization (Admin password, hostname, etc.). Effectively, I can't deploy from a generic Image and get access to the VM.

  7. permament logging

I would like to have a permanent basic logging. When an issue happens only once or if we don't have a repro scenario, we can not rely on KB2913445 to have it run for weeks or months.

  8. Add support for CSVs in SAN copy based rapid provisioning

SAN copy based rapid provisioning results in 1 VHD per LUN and configures the LUN as a clustered non-CSV volume (when the VM is to be deployed as highly available).

It is much easier to manage and backup VMs running on CSVs. If the VM is running on a CSV, it can be backed up from any cluster node regardless of where the VM is running.

So, even though SAN based rapid provisioning requires 1 VHD per LUN, it will be great if SCVMM provides users an option to configure that LUN as a CSV.

  9. Improve WAP Integration

    • Storage classification

    • Multiple IP Addresses

    • Allow migration of NVGRE gateway between clusters and set fixed Public IP on virtual networks.

    • Better monitoring integration, get more information from VMM to WAP.

  10. Virtual Machine Template

Patching and update the VM template should be possible from SCVMM console, and from the current VM template.
I mean it should be possible to convert the current VM template to a VM so we can apply patches and updates and then reconvert the VM to Template.

  11. Storage migration on Service Templates

Please add Storage Migration to Service Templates. It´s pretty boring to shut down the VMs move the disks etc. Could be in the scenario where VMs have shared disks i.e. for clustering.

  12. Quota at runtime

Having quotas at runtime in addition to provisionning time would allow users to build a set of resources and use only a part of them.

  13. contextual powershell script

Have the possibility to run a powershell script (stored in Library) when right clicking an object (for example a VM, a host, etc.)

  14. Import network configuration to VMM for hosts already configured

I think managing the network configuration should be simpler in the sense if you configured your Hyper-V clustering network prior to using VMM. You should be able to add VMM to the mix afterwards and it import how the network is already configured. Not being forced to have to use VMM to setup the network from the beginning if you want VMM to manage it.

  15. "Available for Placement" option for Registered File shares.

"Available for Placement" option for Registered File shares.

In VMM 2012 R2, In the properties of a host server there is the option to mark a disk resource and unavailable for placement, in the storage section on the disk resource.

This is useful to help IT Managers etc. managed active and available disk resources for placements, for all sorts of reasons, I commonly used it for:

    Storage End of life,
Storage Migration, where a new system had been proved and no further VM’s were to be provisioned.
Dedicated Customer Disks where no other systems were allowed to be deployed

    The…

  16. Storage Availability Sets

We can currently define Availability Sets in VMM to try and keep VMs on separate Hyper-V hosts, but it would be useful if the Availability Sets could be applied to CSVs/SMB shares as well so that the underlying storage isn't a potential SPOF for the VMs.

  17. show checkpoints from the VMs window as an additional column.

I have machines with checkpoints... A ton of them. And it can be cumbersome to launch powershell scripts if I'm coming from VMWare. I propose an option to add a column that says something as simple as yes for it has a checkpoint. Then maybe another column to show the size of the avhd/avhdx file.

  18. Enable adding shared VHDX to existing deployed service in VMM.

Actually you are not able to add a shared VHDx to an existing deployed service in VMM.

    Please enable this feature.

A good thing would be the usage of shared VHDx without Service-Templates too.

  19. Pinpoint VMs that are not allowed to run on the same host in a Hyper-V Cluster

For VMs that uses an application cluster, like SQL Always on or Exchange DAGs it would be a nice feature to Point out these Machines and let VMM be aware that these VMs should not be on the same Hyper-V Host, when you put a host in maintenance mode. Like the "Preferred Owner" in Failover Cluster Manager.

  20. 64k allocation unit size for all volume creation tasks.

When creating cluster, volume is 64k automatically formatted. But when you add additional, its 4k.
