  1. Ability to unregister a VM without deleting it from SCVMM

Seems that the only action that I can take to remove a VM from SCVMM is delete option. It would be nice to have the ability to unregister the VM without actually deleting it completely.

  2. Network configuration delivery

Deliver all network configuration commands as a whole so that the host can process them even if the commands will momentarily disconnect the host from the network. This is most useful when provisioning new hosts that only have two adapters that will be part of a team. Currently the team and switch commands are delivered and THEN the commands for the virtual interfaces, these later commands fail as the host has dropped off the network. This leaves the host without network connectivity and the job fails. Many hosts are using converged network fabrics and being able to provision them without…

  3. Manage Private VLAN through VMM

We use Private VLANs in our Hyper-v Clusters but currently all the management of Private VLANs in all modes (promiscous, isolated, etc) have to be done by using Hyper-v powershell commandlets. We would like to be able to manage this completely through VMM.

  4. Include static routes into Static IP Address Pool

Currently, Static IP Address Pools include most of the IP configuration options one might need--such as available address range, default gateway, DNS servers, etc. I see many customers using static routes in their environments, especially for "special" infrastructure networks such as BMC/IPMI addresses. This currently requires manual configuration for affected machines after they get IP address from pool.

  5. VMM Dependency Report and Deletion Tool

Removing objects from VMM quickly becomes a nightmare with all dependencies. To quickly get an overview of the hierarchy and dependencies a VMM Dependency Report would be very helpful. Also interactively deleting objects taking into account dependencies could be an improvement here.

We are planning on improving the deletion workflow for VMM networking artifacts.
Do you folks have specific examples where the workflow is sub-optimal? (apart form deletion of networking artifacts)

  6. tool to create fully patched vhd

It would be great to have a tool where I could add wim file, point it to internet, select updates, and the result would be fully patched VHD. (I know there are multiple things which already exists, but this would be really handy as the tools are not straightforward - converteindowsimage.ps1,dism, sccm...)

  7. Checkpoints don't inherit VM owner, when another user creates it.

We have VMs with a Self-Service owner. When a different user creates a checkpoint on that VM, within the checkpoint properties, it shows that the checkpoint was "created by" the owner, not by the user that actually created it.

Can we have it so the Checkpoint creator's name is in the "created by" field instead of the VM owner?

  9. User Voice

Much like Windows Admin Center, a suggestion I would like is in the VMM Help menu, to link directly to User Voice, for user feedback. This would be handy.

  10. Jobs Window Pop Ups

When creating somwthing like a VMNetwork, the jobs window always pops up, can we make a preference in systems to not open a jobs window by default.

  11. allow wildcards

Powershell modules don't accept wildcard values, like Get-VM -Name 'M*', this is available in PowerCLI on ESX, and is frustrating that it is not available. I can do a filter for results, but I would love to see this added.

  13. The Enhanced Session opens in the background

When I'm switching from basic session mode to enhanced session, the VM Console is shown behind the main SCVMM UI

  14. Allow us to live resize the "Enhanced Session" window

We should be able to resize the VM Window, and the guest OS should change his resolution accordingly

  15. Bare-metal Deployment annoyance - load-save a previous configuration.

When deploying a bare metal host, have the ability to load a previous powershell saved configuration to predefine the settings. Useful for minor changes, or building out a configuration step by step. When adding pNIC's and vNIC's there is a lot of configuration that has to be re-entered if your testing different settings.

  16. Blank Virtual hard disk templates on demand without requiring a library object

When creating a VM template, if you want to add a data disk, you have to precreate the datadisk and load it into the library. If you want it Fixed, you have to take the time to precreate a Fixed VHDX and import it. Also if you want to add multiple data disks you must have unique entries in the library, they cannot be reused inside the same vm template. I propose allowing blank virtual hard disk templates of Fixed type of a specified size to be described in the template, and have scvmm create the disk on demand during…

  17. Custom Properties for VM Networks (and other objects)

As of today we've the possibility to add "custom properties" to some objects available in VMM (i.e. Hosts, Templates, VMs, ..) but it's not available for other/all objects.

It would be great to make these custom properties available across all objects like VM networks and others for which they're not available today.

  18. Extend hardware templates, placement, and VM provisioning to account for DDA devices like GPUs

I propose extending the hardware template to add a DDA assignment for a GPU or NVME device. Handle the placement logic to account for these devices, and perform the PCI dismount/mount process during VM provisioning.

  19. Console Bug: Some fields do not display output

    1. Tenant virtual network IP pool does not display customer VIP reservations. You have to use PowerShell to know they exists (SDNv2 fabric if that matters).

    2. One connected network type Logical Network IP pool does not display configured static routes. You have to use PowerShell to verify they exist.

    3. In Network Service, on a Microsoft network controller, on the Services tab, when viewing a Gateway virtual machine, the Name field of the devices to peer with table does not display configured name.

  20. monitor traffic bound to SCPortAcl rules

It would be nice to create a tool that will provide a real time monitor and ability to find past details for blocked and allowed traffic when SCPortAcl Rules are used. Connectivity filtering relies on firewall traffic monitoring for troubleshooting puproses so it is essential to have.
