  1. Include a -MaxSize option for New-SCStorageVolume that accounts for the S2D resiliency type

When you manage an S2D storage pool in VMM, the "Storage available" value that appears in the console (from the RemainingManagedSpace property of the SPACES_StoragePool object) does not account for resiliency. For example, if the storage pool is a two-way mirror with 400 GB physical storage, the VMM console shows 385 GB available. However, the largest volume you can create on the storage pool is really only 190 GB.

In this scenario, if you attempt to create an S2D volume using New-SCStorageVolume, and you specify a size (-SizeInBytes) that exceeds the actual storage pool capacity, you receive the following job…

  2. A possible bug in SCVMM 2016 (Update Rollup 3) after building a S2D Hyper-V cluster

After building a S2D cluster in SCVMM 2016 with UR 3 I tried to add another node to the cluster. The job failed with the error in the cluster log "An error occurred while executing the test. One or more errors occurred. ERROR CODE: 0X80131500; Native ERROR CODE:1. The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. I tried it multiple times with the same result. But I ran a test-scvmhostcluster PS command with the new node and it succeeded. It ended up that I couldn't add the node via SCVMM but I…

  3. Allow the use of in use IP addresses from a pool in the DNS settings definition for that pool.

Allow Addresses from a network controller managed address pool to be used in the DNS server settings of that pool. Vmm currently gives an error if domain controllers are already deployed using the pool, you will not be able to update that pool's DNS settings.

  4. VM and Hoststatus for Selfservice User -> Unknown

When using VMM with SelfService Users (SSU) the SSU can only see the virtual machine status (VMS) – the user is not able to see the host status itself. I.e. when the host is “host not responding” the SSU will see Status: Running and Virtual Machine Status: Running.

    (screenshot 1)

VMM hides the host status and keeps the last known VMS. It’s the same story for Admins and Delegated Admins with one difference – the user is able to see the host status:

    (screenshot 2)

It’s possible that a not responding host does not lead to an outage of the…

  5. SCVMM add-in installed from Powershell

For add-in's which have to be installed and worked upon silently, there should be a way to install and uninstall from a powershell script

  6. Fix error 23352 when creating Generation 2 VM template and trying to deploy VMs

As discussed in the following forum topic:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/917c90d5-f7f4-454c-825b-fe0f28592978/cannot-create-vm-from-gen2-template?forum=virtualmachingmgrhyperv

I am not able to fix whatever causes error 23352 to be thrown after
    - Creating a new generation 2 Virtual machine
    - Booting, installing and configuring the machine
    - shutting down the machine
    - Creating a VM template from the VM
    - Enabling "Create a differencing disk using the specified disk as parent"
    - Trying to create new virtual machines from the template.

After the VHDX was deployed to the host(s) and differencing disks are to be created, error 23352 ("VMM cannot find the device or this device is not valid…

  8. Compliance & Remediation of Storage Hosts

Currently the update management of Storage Hosts is partially limited in VMM. You can add these hosts as "infrastructure hosts" and VMM will handle them as standalone hosts. When using this way to install updates VMM is not cluster-aware and is not aware of S2D and others.

This should be improved to be able to update storage hosts s2d- and cluster-aware as this is the case for hyper-v hosts.

  10. Enable online memory resize for qualified VMs (Bugfix?)

All options on the memory tab in any VMs properties are inactive (grayed out), yet virtual computers running Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 support hot add and hot remove of memory. It works through Hyper-V Manager but in SCVMM it's not functioning.

  11. VMMAgent - Leverage SMB Multichannel capabilities during File Transfers

TL;DR - Is there any chance that VMMAgent will ever use SMB Multichannel for file transfers?

I understand that VMMAgent does stuff over 443 (or 80 if specified) for file copies. If there's an ODX-capable storage provider, then it will leverage that. Otherwise, it will try "Fast File Copy" and then BITS over HTTPS (or HTTP if specified).

My question (or feature request?) stems from the fact that Microsoft is pushing these great new technologies as the bee's knees - Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), SMB Multichannel, Converged Networking, VMM + WAS, etc. Why can't VMM use them?

    In a multi-NIC…

  12. Allow Cloud Oversubscription

With options like Dynamic Disk and Memory allowing you to get the most out of your resources. It would also make sense to allow end users to oversubscribe resources.

Turned off Virtual Machines count towards cloud limits and therefore users cannot easily switch between workloads in a lab environment without an offline Library. When users work with multiple VMs for a test and can switch multiple times in a day it makes little sense to force the Library usage as they cannot export VMs from the Library until the cloud is clear enough. This leads to countless lost hours waiting…

  13. Allow VMM Library Servers pin to more than one Host group

During placement VMM uses this association in Host Group properties to find closest library, but now it accepts only one host group.

If you add option to select more than one HG in this field it will be best before you realize https://systemcentervmm.uservoice.com/forums/280803-general-vmm-feedback/suggestions/7000584-vmm-library-servers-in-multiple-sites-synchroni

  14. Reduce the text 'Virtual Machine Viewer'

Please can you either allow the 'Virtual Machine Viewer' text to be removed or reduced to 'Viewer'. When you have multiple Virtual Machine open the task bar doesnt allow you to see which machine is what because this text fills the whole section.

Screen grab attached as an example...

    Thanks

  15. Add configuration version option when creating VM's via SCVMM and WAP

When adding a new Windows 2016 Hyper-V cluster to SCVMM, all VM's deployed to the new Windows 2016 cluster automatically deploy from SCVMM as a configuration version 8.0 machine. In order to allow time to upgrade all other Hyper-V Servers still running Windows 2012, it would be good to have the option to have a choice of configuration version of the VM. This is currently only possible if creating a VM directly on the Windows 2016 Hyper-V server itself. When creating VM's directly on a Windows 2016 Hyper-V server one can use the cmdlet "New-VM" and specify the configuration version…

  16. Deferred updates for VM configuration settings

Assume you want to change VM configuration. For example, change vCPU count, allow migration to different CPU version, change MAC address type (dynamic/static), attach FC adapters and may be others. All of this actions require to stop VM to perform this changes.

I want to suggest option that allow make this changes in VMM and postpone it to put to VM until it reboots.

  17. 2016 UR3 deletes vhdx-file when restoring a checkpoint without that disk

    to reproduce:
    - create a new vm
    - create a checkpoint of the new vm
    - attach a second disk to the vm
    - restore the checkpoint

    all versions below UR3:
    - the file of the 2nd disk remains on the csv and can be attached later

    UR3:
    - the agent removes the file of the second disk

  18. Shared nothing live migration with each disk to a different location fails

When LM a VM to a different cluster using VSM, and if the VM has more than one VHDX attached and I want to place each disk on a different CSV. migration fails with an access denied error. Migrating the same VM to one CSV succeeds.

  19. Email distribution or RSS feed for hotfixes for "known" issues that aren't so "known" (business impact)

It would be helpful to have an RSS Feed or email distribution so when "known Issues" internal to microsoft are "known", the community in general will also know.

for example, there was a hotfix for an issue created with UR12 for system center affecting replication. Our engineering team had to open a case with microsoft.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=54854

Admittedly, in this case, the title of the article for the hotfix does not imply that it fixes our specific replication issue which was caused by UR12 but when we call in and are told it is a "known Issue", it would be nice…

  20. Show measurement of over-commit

Presently, a Hyper-V Failover Cluster can have a cluster reserve state of OK or Over-committed. It is boolean.

Instead, I would like to see a measurement or percentage showing how close it is to over-commit, or how much it is over-committed. This measurement would dynamically update based on changing the number of Cluster reserve (nodes).
