  1. Better performance management in VMM

I like to see what performance counters on Hyper-V hosts and VMs on the following components:
    - CPU
    - Memory
    - Network
    - Disk

These performance counters can be viewed in a graph for a day, week and month trend.

It would be nice to see what are the top hosts and VMs on CPU, memory, network and disk I/O in realtime in SCVMM without the use of SCOM

  2. Virtual Machine Template

Patching and update the VM template should be possible from SCVMM console, and from the current VM template.
I mean it should be possible to convert the current VM template to a VM so we can apply patches and updates and then reconvert the VM to Template.

  3. Shared VHDX is only available as service template

This was top 4 common items from End-to-End Hyper-V and Cluster Management in the SCVMM Console Idea. Please provide specific details on this idea.

  4. Make the failover cluster manager VM role names the same as they are named in VMM and Hyper-V

Currently when you create a VM in VMM it adds a prefix and suffix to the role name when created in Failover Cluster Manager. "SCVMM *ServerName* Resources" for example.

When I name a VM, I want the name to stay the same no matter where I am looking. (Hyper-V Manager, Failover Cluster Manager and VMM.) If I name a server "JoesWebServer" I don't want it to change in FCM to "SCVMM JoesWebServer Resources".

  5. Add a field in VMM that shows when a VM was last backed up.

VMWARE does this in vCenter and it's very useful to eyeball when guests were backed up last. It also can aid when backups caused an issue for a machine possibly. It also makes it so my VM guy doesn't need to go talk to my backup guy.

  6. More flexibile service templates

Today we are kinda locked-in when it comes to service templates and deployment of those. I would like to see more flexibility here, such as:

    * dynamically add/remove tiers and instances to an existing service template
    * better management capabilities of the entire service and each individual tier, such as live migration, patching, and DSC integration

  7. Add support for (a basic) virtual IPMI device

When working with new Bare Metal deployments it would save a lot of time if we could use VMs for testing. A Virtual device of some sort supporting IPMI/SMASH could ease the process considerably.

  8. Pinpoint VMs that are not allowed to run on the same host in a Hyper-V Cluster

For VMs that uses an application cluster, like SQL Always on or Exchange DAGs it would be a nice feature to Point out these Machines and let VMM be aware that these VMs should not be on the same Hyper-V Host, when you put a host in maintenance mode. Like the "Preferred Owner" in Failover Cluster Manager.

  9. Enable online memory resize for qualified VMs (Bugfix?)

All options on the memory tab in any VMs properties are inactive (grayed out), yet virtual computers running Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 support hot add and hot remove of memory. It works through Hyper-V Manager but in SCVMM it's not functioning.

  10. Fix error 23352 when creating Generation 2 VM template and trying to deploy VMs

As discussed in the following forum topic:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/917c90d5-f7f4-454c-825b-fe0f28592978/cannot-create-vm-from-gen2-template?forum=virtualmachingmgrhyperv

I am not able to fix whatever causes error 23352 to be thrown after
    - Creating a new generation 2 Virtual machine
    - Booting, installing and configuring the machine
    - shutting down the machine
    - Creating a VM template from the VM
    - Enabling "Create a differencing disk using the specified disk as parent"
    - Trying to create new virtual machines from the template.

After the VHDX was deployed to the host(s) and differencing disks are to be created, error 23352 ("VMM cannot find the device or this device is not valid…

  11. Detect and allow KVP data exchange properties to be exposed as custom properties

We have specific properties that we pass up and down to the VM via KVP, such as 'managed custom properties' to add a 'add existing kvp attribute'. These can then be selected to show on the main view.

Currently, we have a non-trivial WMI script that queries and updates same-name VMM custom attributes with this data so we have a single pane of glass for these values

For example, typically for us we bring drive usage (to compare against VHDx size), escalation manager, and particular system component information up (particular result of a SQL query) to view within VMM so…

  13. Enable adding shared VHDX to existing deployed service in VMM.

Actually you are not able to add a shared VHDx to an existing deployed service in VMM.

    Please enable this feature.

A good thing would be the usage of shared VHDx without Service-Templates too.

  14. Make VMM support "4k-native" VHDXs.

Make VMM support "4k-native" VHDXs. VM creation will fail in VMM if that VM has a 4k-native VHDX. 2012R2 Hyper-v supports 4k native VHDXs just fine. But VMM fails on it.
Before you say "use VHDX format, VMM supports it", please re-read carefully and check - the default vhdX is 512e; VHDX is 4k native only when you explicitly set logical sector size as 4k during its creation. And if you use 4k native VHDX - VMM fails on it (though works fine with 512e VHDX)
    Tested on VMM 2012 R2 UR10 and Windows 2012 R2 File Server Storage Pools:…

  15. job scheduler for maintenance tasks such as adding cpu to VM

It would be great to have tasks I could schedule, or just configure and it would be done during maintenance window for VMs - such as adding CPU or anything else what needs to put VM offline.

  16. Allow live migration of hyper-v protected VMs.

With Hyper-V protected VMs, the vast majority of data already exists on your target host. If a VM is not protected with replica, it migrates all the disk data and memory data and everything is good. With replica enabled there's less work -- most of the data is already on the target. Despite that, I can't do a live migration. While I can use SAN based replication I'd prefer to use Hyper-V replication because I have granularity of which VMs I'd like to protect and I don't have to take unnecessary snapshots of VMs that I don't want to protect.…

  17. Update integration components without shutting down option.

Much like the hyper-v console how I can "insert integration service" disk and do an upgrade reboot, it would be nice not to have to shut down the machine to do this in VMM. Or even cooler would be to schedule it to upgrade on next reboot. Granted I know windows update will soon take over this task.

  18. Sysprep Requirement for Windows VM Templates

The requirement for running sysprep when preparing VM Templates (with Windows) looks a bit confusing, because as soon as you start converting finalized VM, the status changes to 'Sysprepping...'.

If VMM could do sysprepping on it's own, I'd like to be able to skip doing this step in my Task Sequence, because one of the last steps I'm doing is applying some hardening GPOs, which in turn, cause sysprep to succeed only after a subsequent reboot (and automating one is quite a challenge as apparently MDT doesn't like something that's being touched by the hardening policies)

  19. Availabilty Sets between two Clusters/Hostgroups

Today we are able to prevent virtual machines deployments on the same Host in a cluster with availability sets, automatically.
In case of deploying VMs in two datacentre (or two Cluster) there is no such mechanism.
It would be nice if availability sets can be set up for preventing VMs are located in the same datacentre or hostgroup.

  20. Virtual Machine Groups

We have different support groups that requires different level of access in the VMs created on Hyper-V hosts. Global ops should be able to manage all VMs. AD ops only domain controller VMs. SAP ops only SAP VMs. We can to it by assigning reources for each role, but it would be much easier if we could have VM groups that would be used to apply security and some other configurations. VMware uses folders to organize VM groups.
