  1. Make SMI-S more reliable

SMI-S is not reliable enough to do bulk updates to storage array's and SAN fabrics. Many failures and unexpected wait times. Retries have to be build-in service templates for provisioning just because of this.

  2. IP Management

Customers cry out for the ability to see which VM has what IP in a easy format. Short of writing custom powershell would be good to just have it within the GUI

  3. Improve builtin reporting

Improve reporting templates to be able to more comprehensively view resource utilization and especially predict future usage

  4. create better integration to vmware

In the spirit of MS supporting other technologies, VMWare is here to stay and more people would find value in VMM if it had a better integration with VMWare.

  5. Enable baremetal deployments with more than one network adapter (remove bug!)

Currently any bare metal deployments fail when you have more than one network adapter connected (also known by others in the web). This comes through multiple dns entries (as each adapter register itself) and therefore the VM server lost the connection. Additionally the host is registered with the WinPE name and not with the final host name. It seems that bare metal deployment was never really tested in real multi NIC blade environments. We had to create a couple workaround to bring it to live.

  6. VMM GUI - Use IP-Pools for existing VMs

currently is only about PowerShell possible to add a network adapter with an existing VM and assign the IP Address from a IPOOL. This standard task should be included in the GUI.

  7. Host Group Overview: Available Resources

I think it would be great if instead of pretty useless "overall MB\s" and "monthly storage MBPS" we could see an overview of available resources for a host group:
    - Storage (Used\Available for Placement)
    - Memory (used\available for new VMs)
    - Top N hosts running out of resources (3-5 hosts)
    - Top N free hosts (2-5 hosts)

  8. give Console View in VMM the same options like in Hyper-V or FailoverCluster Manager

sometimes i need to use the console view to connect to the VMs desktop. But the console view in VMM is not as good as the viewer in FCM or Hyper-V manager.
Please make the console view the same as in the other management tools (i. e. Insert Integration Services disk, Start, Stop VM, etc.)

  9. HNV Network Virtualization Policy Refresher

Allow Policies of HNV gateways to be refreshed / reset for all or certain networks. Frequently virtualized networks get outdated and there is no way to reset the policies on all hosts / gateways or do any troubleshooting at all.

  10. HNV GW Cluster deployment / migration

Ease the deployment of the HNV Gateway deployment. Now you can only deploy it through Service Templates. They are subject to many errors during the deployment. Also there is no way to easily migrate networks between gateways. there should be a option for that too

  11. Improve dangerous PowerShell CMDlets

Right now you can easily remove all cloud services (VM Role deployments) because there is no confirm impact for the remove-cloudservice and remove-cloudresource cmdlets. Also whatif is not available.
When running get-cloudservice | remove-cloudservice, everything is gone without any prompt for confirmation.

  12. Make it possible to choose migration method when more than one would be technically available

When it's technically possible to move a VM with both Live Migration and BITS, then make it possible to choose which method should be used for that transfer.

  13. Simplify ASR & WAP integration. Add ASR integration at host group level, not Cloud level to simplify DR for tenants

The challenges today with ASR integration together with Azure Pack:

Requires at least two management stamps (increases footprint and costs)

Requires two Service Provider Foundation installations

Requires two Windows Azure Pack environments (which can be comprehensive when it’s for production scenarios, especially service providers)

Makes NVGRE complex for tenant workloads

It’s the opposite of what's origin – which is democratization of Disaster Recovery scenarios

DR is enabled at the Cloud level in SCVMM, which breaks the relationship between subscriptions, hosting plans for tenants in Windows Azure Pack

    Suggestion(s):

Remove DR integration at the Cloud level in SCVMM

    Enable the DR…

  14. More flexibile service templates

Today we are kinda locked-in when it comes to service templates and deployment of those. I would like to see more flexibility here, such as:

    * dynamically add/remove tiers and instances to an existing service template
    * better management capabilities of the entire service and each individual tier, such as live migration, patching, and DSC integration

  15. Ability to remove/add dependency between Service Templates/Gallery Items and VMs with Powershell

Also Service Templates and VM Templates should use tags, Familiy name and versioning to use Disk instead of attaching them directly

  16. A Great Management Pack

We need a brand new Management Pack that sets the reference for fabric monitoring. No more OpsMgr SDK dependencies to take into account managed service provider scenarios.

  17. Add service aware patching for both fabric and tenants

Today we badly miss a Comprehensive patch managemt nsolution for the datacenter. SCCM is focused on single system patching, VMM just Patches the fabric and has many shortcomings. Today we use custom Scripting Solutions that are hard to mantain.
VMM is the place where to implement the datacenter patching, we need:
    - maintenance Windows
    - ability to set different environments (test, pilot, poduction at least)
    - ability to set relationships between systems
    - great compliance reporting
    - straightforward tshooting logging and tools
    - ability to have pre and post custom actions
    ...
    - service dependencies (

  18. Do not lock VMs in UI when a job is failed

We're discussed this but I want to say it again: it's VERY annoying to click Repair->Ignore every time...

  19. please make a clear statement about many VMMs to one OpsMgr instance integration support.

Can't find anything on this topic in docs. I have a lot requests for this and can't answer with an official statement

  20. VMM Dependency Report and Deletion Tool

Removing objects from VMM quickly becomes a nightmare with all dependencies. To quickly get an overview of the hierarchy and dependencies a VMM Dependency Report would be very helpful. Also interactively deleting objects taking into account dependencies could be an improvement here.
