  1. Support Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V in VMM 2019

I know System requirements for System Center Virtual Machine Manager (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/vmm/system-requirements?view=sc-vmm-2019) does not list Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V as being a supported Hyper-V host in a VMM 2019 environment. And there's a difference between "not officially supported" and "officially not supported". VMM 2019 simply does not allow you to install its agent on a Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V server:

    Error (20523)
The verslon of the Windows operating system on the computer xxxxx is not supported for a host.

    Recommended Action
Upgrade the operating system to Windows Server 2016 or a later supported version, and then try the operation…

  2. DCR: Customer would like a better algorithm for calculating Overcommit

Customer is sometimes 'ok' state. And other times, 'overcommit' state, even without changes in environment.

SCVMM 2016 UR4, Standalone VMM environment of 12 Nodes.
He has 192 GB free when he calculates all his HOST's free memory including the reserve node's (R1).

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3023928/details-of-the-cluster-overcommit-algorithm-in-system-center-2012-r2-v

    * What we might really need here is logging of how 'ok' and 'overcommit' was calculated so the toggle between both states is understood.

  3. use offline domainjoin instead of unattend.xml

Currently VMM is using unattend.xml for domain joins for VMs and Hyper-V hosts. This contains having unencrypted passwords stored as cleartext at some points of time during the deployment.

We would prefer using offline domain join instead - as it was done for nano server in the past.

  4. Bare-metal Deployment annoyance - load-save a previous configuration.

When deploying a bare metal host, have the ability to load a previous powershell saved configuration to predefine the settings. Useful for minor changes, or building out a configuration step by step. When adding pNIC's and vNIC's there is a lot of configuration that has to be re-entered if your testing different settings.

  5. A possible bug in SCVMM 2016 (Update Rollup 3) after building a S2D Hyper-V cluster

After building a S2D cluster in SCVMM 2016 with UR 3 I tried to add another node to the cluster. The job failed with the error in the cluster log "An error occurred while executing the test. One or more errors occurred. ERROR CODE: 0X80131500; Native ERROR CODE:1. The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. I tried it multiple times with the same result. But I ran a test-scvmhostcluster PS command with the new node and it succeeded. It ended up that I couldn't add the node via SCVMM but I…

  6. Show measurement of over-commit

Presently, a Hyper-V Failover Cluster can have a cluster reserve state of OK or Over-committed. It is boolean.

Instead, I would like to see a measurement or percentage showing how close it is to over-commit, or how much it is over-committed. This measurement would dynamically update based on changing the number of Cluster reserve (nodes).

  7. VMM2016 Maintenance mode/Live migration problem.

I have a cluster of 4 hyper-converged nodes. I'm trying to install the latest CU (KB3197954). The process so far has been

    1. Start maintenance mode
    2. install CU
    3. Stop maintenance mode
    4. wait for S2D to rebuild
    5. move on to the next node

This has worked fine for the first 3 nodes. When I tried to put the final node in maintenance mode, I got the following error.

    Error (10434)
No suitable host is available for migrating the existing highly available virtual machines.

Now I tried to manually migrate a VM. In the Select Host page, I…

  9. Forbid placement non-HA VMs to clustered hosts

It would be great to see some kind of option to prevent placement or migration non highly avaliable virtual machines to clustered hosts.

That often happens when migrating VM from standalone host to cluster resulting unexpected VM downtimes in case of clustered host shutdown\reboot.

  10. Increase Number of Managed Hosts

Currently the number of hosts that can be managed by SCVMM is set at 1000 hosts. We are nearing 1600 hosts which requires 2 managed instances of SCVMM (2 separate backend environments) We would like to see an increase in the number of managed hosts that will not only take care of our current environment, but allow us to continue to grow.

  11. Hyper-V-Clustering-SCVMM

I have deployed a number of Private Cloud Implementation with 2012 R2 Hyper-V Failover Clustering and System Centre 2012 R2. Below are some of the challenges I have experienced and changes I could like to see.

    1. I have experience a number of challenges in managing Hyper-V Cluster Implementation.
    a. The Failover Cluster Manager does not have all the function to manage Hyper-V in a cluster.
    b. The Hyper-V Manager does not have all the function to manage Hyper-V in a cluster.
    c. In future a could like to see a single console for managing Hyper-V Cluster Implementation (one cannot…

  13. VMM Perimeter Network

According to Technet, VMM doesn't currently support adding Hyper-V clusters in perimeter networks: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/gg610642.aspx

However, clusters are supported in "untrusted domains".

It would be helpful if VMM could be updated to support perimeter clusters, especially when working with NVGRE gateway clusters.

  14. Update VMM agent on untrusted domains

When attempting to update the VMM agents on hosts in un-trusted domains, the job fails. Currently there is a loooonnnggg work around involving uninstall, re-install, and exporting the certificate. It would be nice if this was able to be done directly through SCVMM console.

  15. Provide better error message for failed Compliance Scans

When performing a compliance scan of a managed Hyper-V host where the underlying root cause is related to WSUS, the following error is returned in the VMM job:
Error (2931) VMM is unable to complete the request. The connection to the VMM agent on the virtualization server (server01.domain.local) was lost. Unknown error (0x80338029)

The error message indicates connection problems between SC VMM and the managed host, which is misleading when the problem is related to WSUS. An example of a specific case is available in this article:
    http://blog.crayon.com/compliance-scan-sc-vmm-fails-error-2931/

  16. KVM support

Add support for KVM hosts. OpenStack connector would be nice too but KVM management is a must.

  17. create better integration to vmware

In the spirit of MS supporting other technologies, VMWare is here to stay and more people would find value in VMM if it had a better integration with VMWare.

  18. Enable baremetal deployments with more than one network adapter (remove bug!)

Currently any bare metal deployments fail when you have more than one network adapter connected (also known by others in the web). This comes through multiple dns entries (as each adapter register itself) and therefore the VM server lost the connection. Additionally the host is registered with the WinPE name and not with the final host name. It seems that bare metal deployment was never really tested in real multi NIC blade environments. We had to create a couple workaround to bring it to live.

  19. Simplify ASR & WAP integration. Add ASR integration at host group level, not Cloud level to simplify DR for tenants

The challenges today with ASR integration together with Azure Pack:

Requires at least two management stamps (increases footprint and costs)

Requires two Service Provider Foundation installations

Requires two Windows Azure Pack environments (which can be comprehensive when it’s for production scenarios, especially service providers)

Makes NVGRE complex for tenant workloads

It’s the opposite of what's origin – which is democratization of Disaster Recovery scenarios

DR is enabled at the Cloud level in SCVMM, which breaks the relationship between subscriptions, hosting plans for tenants in Windows Azure Pack

    Suggestion(s):

Remove DR integration at the Cloud level in SCVMM

    Enable the DR…

  20. Improve Update Console

Update console is too "poor" because I can't see who many servers need a specific update and if the update is obsolete or not. The console must be improved like WSUS
