  1. Remove optical media from running vm

Currently (1801) we are unable to remove optical media from a running VM although it is supported and doable from the failover cluster manager.
    Please fix that.

  2. hiddensharePrevent users from creating hidden shares from the VMM console (or support them!)

VMM Allows you to create shares that are hidden by adding a $ to the end of the name. It works fine and allows you to use them.

However, if you remove one of these shares (ie, retire it) all of the hidden shares disappear. This is because the discovery gets run and it incorrectly assumes anything with a $ at the end is special and needs to be filtered out.

At this point, all of your VMs on these shares go into an unsupported state and you lose the ability to manage VMs using VMM.

    Please allow VMM to…

  3. Provide web based management in VMM 2016 like App Controller without Windows Azure Pack

An easy to use web based management option like App Controller should be provided for VMM 2016. Setting up Windows Azure Pack just in order to give internal customers e.g. developers a tool to manage their VMs seems oversized.

  4. Mapping virtual NICs to SET switch Physical adapters

As SET switches don't support LACP

By default an algorithm is in place to affinitize a vNIC to a Physical network adapter when they are in a team (LBFO or SET). This algorithm does not always do the things you want, If I have two storage NICs created on my vSwitch I would like them affinitized both on a different physical adapter.

    Set-VMNetworkAdapterTeamMapping -VMNetworkAdapterName SMB1 –ManagementOS –PhysicalNetAdapterName “SLOT 2”
    Set-VMNetworkAdapterTeamMapping -VMNetworkAdapterName SMB
    2 –ManagementOS –PhysicalNetAdapterName “SLOT 3”

  5. VMMAgent - Leverage SMB Multichannel capabilities during File Transfers

TL;DR - Is there any chance that VMMAgent will ever use SMB Multichannel for file transfers?

I understand that VMMAgent does stuff over 443 (or 80 if specified) for file copies. If there's an ODX-capable storage provider, then it will leverage that. Otherwise, it will try "Fast File Copy" and then BITS over HTTPS (or HTTP if specified).

My question (or feature request?) stems from the fact that Microsoft is pushing these great new technologies as the bee's knees - Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), SMB Multichannel, Converged Networking, VMM + WAS, etc. Why can't VMM use them?

    In a multi-NIC…

  6. show the vmm console build number

In some cases customers work on dedicated admin workstations a local VMM Console installed. In these scenarios it's important to keep the console up-to-date, if possible in the same version as the VMM Server. It would be great if the VMM Console notifies the user if he's using and older VMM Console version.

at least this should be displayed within the "about" dialog.

  7. Add deduplication option to the Create Logical Unit wizard

Currently the Create Logical Unit wizard offers two options:
    thin provisioned and thick provisioned.
Please add 'Thin provisioned and deduplicated'
Or give each storage pool a default settings option, in which the new LUN defaults for that pool are saved (thin/thick, deduplication, compression, ...)

  8. Virtual Machine Multi-Queue in Port Profiles

Hyper-V 2016 adds a new feature called Virtual Machine Multi-Queue that allows a since VM to have multiple VMQ queues assigned to it to increase throughput. However, this can only be enabled by going into Hyper-V itself and not through VMM. It should be added as a new checkbox to the "Offload Settings" section for Virtual Network Adapter Port Profiles.

  9. Allow VMM Library Servers pin to more than one Host group

During placement VMM uses this association in Host Group properties to find closest library, but now it accepts only one host group.

If you add option to select more than one HG in this field it will be best before you realize https://systemcentervmm.uservoice.com/forums/280803-general-vmm-feedback/suggestions/7000584-vmm-library-servers-in-multiple-sites-synchroni

  10. Detect and allow KVP data exchange properties to be exposed as custom properties

We have specific properties that we pass up and down to the VM via KVP, such as 'managed custom properties' to add a 'add existing kvp attribute'. These can then be selected to show on the main view.

Currently, we have a non-trivial WMI script that queries and updates same-name VMM custom attributes with this data so we have a single pane of glass for these values

For example, typically for us we bring drive usage (to compare against VHDx size), escalation manager, and particular system component information up (particular result of a SQL query) to view within VMM so…

  11. Allow setting ExposeVirtualizationExtensions to true in VMM

We are using this for enabling Device Guard/Credential Guard on VMs not for nested virtualization.

  12. VMM2016 Maintenance mode/Live migration problem.

I have a cluster of 4 hyper-converged nodes. I'm trying to install the latest CU (KB3197954). The process so far has been

    1. Start maintenance mode

    2. install CU

    3. Stop maintenance mode

    4. wait for S2D to rebuild

    5. move on to the next node

This has worked fine for the first 3 nodes. When I tried to put the final node in maintenance mode, I got the following error.

    Error (10434)
No suitable host is available for migrating the existing highly available virtual machines.

Now I tried to manually migrate a VM. In the Select Host page, I get "Unable to migrate or…

  14. Make VMM support "4k-native" VHDXs.

Make VMM support "4k-native" VHDXs. VM creation will fail in VMM if that VM has a 4k-native VHDX. 2012R2 Hyper-v supports 4k native VHDXs just fine. But VMM fails on it.
Before you say "use VHDX format, VMM supports it", please re-read carefully and check - the default vhdX is 512e; VHDX is 4k native only when you explicitly set logical sector size as 4k during its creation. And if you use 4k native VHDX - VMM fails on it (though works fine with 512e VHDX)
    Tested on VMM 2012 R2 UR10 and Windows 2012 R2 File Server Storage Pools:…

Thanks for providing the inputs, we are reviewing this and update on future progress.

  15. Get VMM more reliable and stable.

I currently have to work on VMM issues more than my Hyper-v failover cluster setup. The tool you use to manage something shouldn't be more of a hassle than the product you are managing.

  16. SCVMM re-scan of Hyper V cluster to update its database

SCVMM gets itself in a mess, Cluster Manager knows were the VM's are SCVMM think's it knows and you get in a situation were you can't fix it. Its so frustration...

  17. Easier setup and management of Logical and Virtual Switches/Networks

The configuration and setup of Logical Networks and Switches are hard for administrators to learn and understand.
There is need to simplify this and also provide a graphical overview for how things are connected on a logical level. (the current build in view is not good enough).

  18. "Update remediation of AgentServer"

24027 Update remediation of AgentServer <Server Name> timed out.

The Remediation task with a time-out value of 40 minutes.

When you have updates from more then a month, it will take more then 40 minutes to complete the task.

I never seen remediation task been successful, because of this and other issues with the remediation feature.

Please help to update this value or change the behavior so this error does not occur.

Request you to please connect with support team and raise the same as production ticket. Support Team can work and perform detailed investigation and identify the root cause.

  19. VMM library servers in multiple sites -> synchronization of content

That’s a major issue that there is no support for DFS-R to keep different VMM library servers in different sites in sync or up to date. If we can use DFS-R for it that would be a good step forward.

This feature is being planned, will update once we start working on this.

  20. Better performance management in VMM

I like to see what performance counters on Hyper-V hosts and VMs on the following components:
    - CPU
    - Memory
    - Network
    - Disk

These performance counters can be viewed in a graph for a day, week and month trend.

It would be nice to see what are the top hosts and VMs on CPU, memory, network and disk I/O in realtime in SCVMM without the use of SCOM
