  1. Include all features of Hyper-V manager into VMM

I miss all options for Hyper-V replica management and alarming.

    Keiko Harada responded

    Hi Markus,

Can you break this down in smaller ideas? This is just too big of a bucket for us. Also there is an idea for HVR on VMM. Would you like to vote there?

    thanks,

  2. Add Scale-In Button!

We need to have a Scale-In button for Services as we have Scale-Out button, this is confusing. However in Orchestrator we have Scale-In and Scale-Out. At the moment we need to right click the VM and delete the instance in order to Scale-in.

    Thank you!

  3. VMM stability

VMM Service seems to be very sensitive to all kinds of issues, including very small ones (network glitches, IP from non-existing pool specified for Bare Metal Deployment, etc.) and whenever something like that occurs it just crashes interrupting everything that was running before and not resuming/restarting it afterwards (i.e. cross cluster VM migration, Bare Metal Deployment, VM deployment, etc.). It would be nice if it could handle those issues in a more reliable fashion and in cases when in really needs to crash, resume or restart corresponding activities.

  4. Bare Metal Deployment (post deployment automation)

It would be nice if there was a good way to inject execution of custom scripts or either a way to trigger MDT (and\or SCCM) task sequence (with a support of TS initiated reboot) as a final deployment step once the host got all the needed settings from SCVMM but before it become available for placement. This step is needed to automate installation of vendor specific drivers/tools (and other software) that for whatever reason cannot be injected into the template VHDX. Currently, the workaround is to use the GUIRunOnce attribute together with auto logon in the unattend.xml file, but that's…

  5. More reliable integration with SCOM

Please make the integration with SCOM less dependent on a single SCOM Management Server. It would be nice if the VMM could discover all the MSes and dynamically pick the next available one, in case if the current becomes unavailable (i.e. host maintenance or failure).

  6. Please fix this the VMM management pack for SCOM 2012 R2

This has been a known issue for close to 3 years now. Not sure how the product team (or team that creates and tests the MP) is missing it. Would love to see a fix if one hasn't already been developed...

  7. Job names\description is confusing and inconsistent

The log view may show confusing an inconsistent records. For example, when a VM is migrated from one host to another, the job name may say 'Deploy virtual machine', while the corresponding step name actually says 'Move virtual machine <VM Name> from ...'. Sometimes, executing the same task for several objects may show up differently on the same view (Running) but looking at those same jobs in the History view shows up correctly. Examples (created in SCVMM 2012 SP1) attached.

  8. Storage QoS is not available

This was top 4 common items from End-to-End Hyper-V and Cluster Management in the SCVMM Console Idea. Please provide specific details on this idea.

  9. Sync config change automatically

Often times it becomes a problem when something settings get changed either through Hyper-V console or within Failover Cluster manager which makes the look in SCVMM inconsistent and may require multiple refreshes of host\cluster\vm configuration to bring it back to the synced state back again. It would be really nice if VMM agent would catch all those changes and notify VMM immediately instead of relying on periodic refresh only.

  10. Autodetect Supported Linux OS

When migrating Linux VMs from VMWare we observed that VMM does not autodetect the operating system as it does with Windows VMs, and so the OS is listed as Unknown. I wrote a script to query the key-value pair for OSName and then appropriately label the VM in VMM, but we feel that this should be an included feature.

  12. Allow live migration of hyper-v protected VMs.

With Hyper-V protected VMs, the vast majority of data already exists on your target host. If a VM is not protected with replica, it migrates all the disk data and memory data and everything is good. With replica enabled there's less work -- most of the data is already on the target. Despite that, I can't do a live migration. While I can use SAN based replication I'd prefer to use Hyper-V replication because I have granularity of which VMs I'd like to protect and I don't have to take unnecessary snapshots of VMs that I don't want to protect.…

  13. Bare Metal Deployment (MPIO support)

It would be nice if MPIO was supported during Bare Metal Deployment as it would make the process more resilient to SAN network spikes and not duplicate detected disks if the same LUN is presented via multiple paths.

  14. give Console View in VMM the same options like in Hyper-V or FailoverCluster Manager

sometimes i need to use the console view to connect to the VMs desktop. But the console view in VMM is not as good as the viewer in FCM or Hyper-V manager.
Please make the console view the same as in the other management tools (i. e. Insert Integration Services disk, Start, Stop VM, etc.)

  15. IP Management

Customers cry out for the ability to see which VM has what IP in a easy format. Short of writing custom powershell would be good to just have it within the GUI

  16. Improve graphic management of vms

It could be nice to have "graphical groups" of vms, such as folder tree, that is mainly logical with no specific associated resources.

  17. A Great Management Pack

We need a brand new Management Pack that sets the reference for fabric monitoring. No more OpsMgr SDK dependencies to take into account managed service provider scenarios.

  18. Enable baremetal deployments with more than one network adapter (remove bug!)

Currently any bare metal deployments fail when you have more than one network adapter connected (also known by others in the web). This comes through multiple dns entries (as each adapter register itself) and therefore the VM server lost the connection. Additionally the host is registered with the WinPE name and not with the final host name. It seems that bare metal deployment was never really tested in real multi NIC blade environments. We had to create a couple workaround to bring it to live.

  19. create better integration to vmware

In the spirit of MS supporting other technologies, VMWare is here to stay and more people would find value in VMM if it had a better integration with VMWare.

  20. Database Consistency Tool

We are regularly faced with inconsistency in the database or we need to remove a cluster or a node but can't because VMM simply refuses. Repairing the database is risky and unsupported and once in while things get messed up. I'd love to see a tool which tests for VMM database inconsistency and a way to clean up
